December 26, 2023Question 10626 – GATE 2008-IT
A sample space has two events A and B such that probabilities P(A ∩ B) = 1/2, P(A’) = 1/3, P(B’) = 1/3. What is P(A ∪ B)?
Correct Answer: B
Question 2 Explanation:
P(A ∩ B) = 1/2
P(A’) = 1/3; P(A) = 2/3
P(B’) = 1/3; P(B) = 2/3
P(A ∪ B) = P(A) +P(B) – P(A ∩ B)
= 2/3 + 2/3 – 1/2
= 4+4-3/ 6
= 5/6
= 10/12
P(A’) = 1/3; P(A) = 2/3
P(B’) = 1/3; P(B) = 2/3
P(A ∪ B) = P(A) +P(B) – P(A ∩ B)
= 2/3 + 2/3 – 1/2
= 4+4-3/ 6
= 5/6
= 10/12
